Transform your desserts and baked goods with our Chocolate Crumb recipe. This simple yet sensational addition adds rich cocoa flavor and delightful texture to various treats. Ideal for bakers looking to add a creative touch to their culinary creations, this recipe combines everyday baking ingredients to produce chocolate crumbs that are versatile, delicious, and easy to make.
This recipe starts with high-quality ingredients that blend to create a rich chocolate taste. Use plain flour as your base and a small amount of corn flour to achieve a tender crumb. Adding sugar provides sweetness, while cocoa powder contributes a deep, chocolatey essence. A touch of salt enhances the flavor, bringing out the chocolate’s complexity.
Mix the flour, cornflour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt in a low-speed bowl or mixer. This dry mixture forms the foundation of your chocolate crumbs, ensuring that each ingredient is evenly distributed for consistent flavor.
Melt butter and add it to your dry ingredients until the mixture forms small clusters. These clusters will bake into the delightful crumbs that characterise this recipe. The butter binds the ingredients and adds a richness that complements the cocoa.
Spread the clusters on a silicone baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 150°C. This gentle baking process allows the crumbs to dry without burning, creating a perfect crispy texture. Stir the mixture occasionally during baking to ensure even cooking and to break up the clusters into crumbs.
When removed from the oven, the chocolate crumbs should be slightly moist to the touch and will dry and harden as they cool. Allow them to cool completely before using. Store your chocolate crumbs in an airtight container to keep them fresh. They will last a week at room temperature or a month in the fridge.
These chocolate crumbs are incredibly versatile and can be used in various ways. Sprinkle them over ice cream or yoghurt for added texture, use them as a topping for cakes or cupcakes, or incorporate them into trifle layers. They also make an excellent addition to homemade granola or as a base for pie crusts.

With just a few essential ingredients and minimal effort, you can create a topping that adds a special touch to almost any dessert.
